Mapping My Month: June 2014

Skagway, Alaska
I'm finding it hard to believe that it's already June.  In 2014, no less!  Am I the only one who's still signing forms with a date of 2012?!

May was a great month for the Gypsy household.  We kicked it off by flying to Boston for my uncle's wedding and a jam-packed weekend!  We followed in the footsteps of Revolutionary Patriots on Boston's Freedom Trail, munched on fish 'n' chips at the historic Green Dragon Tavern, and took a step back in time at Plimoth Plantation.  The next weekend we went all-American for my brother's bachelor blowout: target shooting, go-kart racing, and a few breweries.  Finally, we wrapped up the month in Virginia's Northern Neck, boating, beaching, and battling a stingray!  I seem to be making and breaking records of the biggest catch pulled in from the creek.  Last time it was a puppy drum nearly 18" long.  Saturday's stingray took fifteen minutes to pull in and measured over 2 feet from wingtip to wingtip!

What a fun catch!

With May in the bag, June's plans are shaping up nicely.  My brother is getting married next weekend here in Richmond!  We'll have family and friends in town to celebrate, and I'm particularly excited about a visit from a certain Texan friend.  We have a big camping and tubing trip planned for the Shenandoah, a few food festivals here in Richmond, and by the time June finishes, we'll be days away from our European vacation.  Can't wait!!!

How was your May?  Have any big plans for June yet?

  1. Oh, I was just saying that I really want to make sure we make it to the Shenandoah for a weekend this summer! Sounds like a great month ahead!

    1. The Shenandoah is SO gorgeous. I can never decide whether there or the Northern Neck is the prettiest place in Virginia!

  2. That definitely was a catch, very fun! Sounds like you have an exciting June planned, especially the camping and tubing. I haven't gone tubing in years... always a good time.

    1. Whether for just an hour or all day, there's nothing like tubing to really get IN with nature and just relax!

    1. Excellent!!! If you haven't picked a particular place to be, Luray is amazing. You can pop in at some of the caverns along with enjoying the river and the outdoors!

  4. Shenandoah is the one place in the world that I would pick up to and move... right this second! I love to hike, but everytime I go (almost everytime) I see a bear or two!
That stingray is amazing. Did you stingray fishing or catch it accidentally?

    1. We actually saw a bear this past weekend! Not in Shenandoah but in the Blue Ridge near the Charlottesville area. I'll probably blog about it later this week or next! He was a cute little guy, and we were safely in the truck so neither he nor we were bothered in the least. :)

As for the stingray, I caught it accidentally. But I wasn't complaining because 'ray tastes like scallops!

  5. Wow that is a massive sting ray! I've never gone fishing before - I don't think I have the patience for it. Sounds like you have a great month of June coming up.

    1. That's the one thing about fishing... it's called "fishing" and not "catching!" You're never guaranteed to get anything. We just sit out on the dock and have a beer or two. Having a line in the water is just a sideshow to the beautiful sunsets and the serenading of the frogs!
