On the 450th celebration of William Shakespeare's birthday, I am wishing that I'd had more time and opportunity to explore his life while in England. Beyond viewing the marker honoring him at Westminster Abbey and the view from the top of St. Paul's of his re-created Globe, this English major has not yet been able to explore Shakespeare the person in his own country. Maybe one day.
Side note, but if you're a Shakespeare fan, you should check out the American Shakespeare Center at the Blackfriar's Playhouse located in Staunton, Virginia. It's well worth it!
Are you a fan of Shakespeare? Have you been able to visit Stratford-Upon-Avon or other Shakespearean sites?

Yep, a Shakespeare fan. Happy Birthday Will!

DeleteThis is actually pretty embarassing but I have a BA in English and only visited England 2 weeks before my graduation for the first time aaaand I've never been to London..... I really need to visit the city soon!
ReplyDeleteI have a BA in English, too, but didn't squeak in a visit until this past February. I was in London for a little more than 48 hours - not nearly enough time! I'd love to see more of the UK. London was amazing, but I know that's not all there is to see!
DeleteI've been to Stratford, where we saw Richard III, and the Globe where we had a tour but didn't see a performance - I'm not sure it would be that comfortable! Apologies if this appears twice, I'm having trouble getting comments to work.

That's so cool! I need to plan an actual vacation to the UK. My London trip was last minute and under strict time-constraints. Seeing a Shakespeare play at Stratford or the Globe would be on my list of things to do!
